When you visit the Smokies, we know you want to see Gatlinburg and Pigeon Forge, but there is another place that you just have to visit when you stay with us in our cabins!
Cades Cove is just a scenic drive away from Gatlinburg in nearby Townsend, and it has some of the most beautiful views of the mountains. The Cades Cove Loop is also the best place to see some of the local wildlife. Here’s what you need to know:
1. What time does Cades Cove Loop open?
Cades Cove is open year-round from sunrise to sunset, weather permitting. During the months of May through September, the loop opens late on Wednesdays and Saturdays so that cyclists and pedestrians can bike or walk the loop without vehicles interfering. Thanks to the operating hours of the loop, you have a whole day to visit the cabins and hike the trails in Cades Cove.
2. How long is Cades Cove Loop?
The loop is roughly 11 miles in length, which gives you plenty of opportunities to see the beauty of the mountains and catch a glimpse of some of the wildlife. This one-way road offers not only scenic views of the area, but also a few trails and historic cabins that have been restored over the years. You can also see a few different churches here and look through the cemeteries that are behind them. You can also visit the historic grist mill and visitor’s center to browse locally made preserves and jams too!
3. What is there to see on the Cades Cove Loop?
There are so many cool things to see on the Cades Cove Loop! Click here to see what sights you should stop to see when you visit the Cove. Some of these stops have places for you to pull off and park so that the traffic behind you can keep moving. Others you might have to just pull off on the side of the road and walk a bit to find the cabins and barns. The best part about these buildings is that they have been preserved and kept in shape to show what they would have looked like back when settlers first came to the Cove.
4. What hiking trailheads are in Cades Cove?
The Cades Cove Loop has not only places to stop and look at, but plenty of hiking trails as well! Abram’s Falls is one of the most beautiful trails in the national park, and you get to enjoy the water once you reach your destination! Each trail has a different experience. You can get to the loop as soon as it opens so that you can get to the trailheads to start your day off right!
